Clayton (Richard) Hayes, 78, passed away on December 3, 2017, in Chattanooga.
He was born to the late William C. Hayes, Sr. and Clara Hayes.
Clayton grew up in Chattanooga, and was educated in the city school system. He was employed several years at Summit House.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Thaddeus Hayes, Bartholomew Hayes, William “Tough Foot” Hayes, Jr., and Lenox Hayes, sister; Peggy Watts.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Gloria D. Hayes; daughter, Cynthia Hayes; stepson, Samuel Petty; two grandsons, Terence C. Lowdermilk and Terrell C. Lowdermilk; great-granddaughter, Terryn S. Lowdermilk; several step-grandchildren, four brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, Elder Walter L. (Mable) Mayweather, Edward F. (Thois) Bentley, Charles A. Butler, Manuel (Donna) Butler, Willene Hudgins; a devoted nephew, Michael Watts, a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The body will lie in state after noon on Friday, Dec. 8, and the family will receive friends from 6–7 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
