Benefits Kids With Pediatric Cancer

Tuesday, August 14, 2018

For the fourth consecutive year, Ruby Falls invites amateur barbeque enthusiasts to test their grill skills at Battle Below the Clouds on Saturday, Aug. 25.  Competition registration is open to 20 new and returning teams with all entry fees benefiting Lana’s Love Foundation, an organization that provides fun, year-round activities for local children with pediatric cancer and their families.

As the only competition open to amateurs in the Chattanooga area, backyard smokers and cookers vie to win Best Ribs, Best Pulled Pork and Grand Champion awards from a panel of independent judges. Registered teams receive two complimentary passes to Ruby Falls and ZIPStream Aerial Adventure, event t-shirts and apron, Ruby Falls meat shredders, meat for the competition and are invited to attend a kick-off party the night before the event.

“Battle Below the Clouds is the perfect opportunity for the amateur smoker who believes they have the best BBQ in the area to compete without having the expense and time commitment of traveling to a distant event,” said Hugh Morrow, president of Ruby Falls.  “The winners earn bragging rights to say they truly are the best backyard cooks in Chattanooga.”

Spectators may attend the event free of charge to cheer on their favorite team and discover new tips to take their grill skills to a new level. Live bluegrass music by the Chattanooga Pickers and the Bluetastics will keep the crowd entertained, along with games for kids and BBQ for purchase.

“We are so thrilled with the continued support of Ruby Falls and the Battle Below the Clouds fundraiser” said Holly Shull, director of Lana’s Love Foundation. “The event raises funds that allows us to provide monthly events, giving our families the opportunity to enjoy time together, smile and forget about what they are going through for a while. We are truly grateful to all Battle Below the Clouds participants because it makes a difference to the children this fundraiser helps.”

Competitors check-in at Ruby Falls on Aug. 24 from 5-7 p.m. to receive their meat.  Grilling begins Aug. 25 at 6 a.m. with judging and awards at 5 p.m.  For additional details and to register, visit lanaslove.com.
